Chase’s journey into mushrooms began soon after we moved to the redwoods. With his background in culinary arts and a deep love for the forest, mushrooms quickly became an irresistible focus. Our hikes turned into slow, curious walks—searching for reptiles and amphibians (another passion) and marveling at the incredible fungi that thrive among the redwoods. Chase began identifying local species and soon discovered just how powerful mushrooms can be for health and wellbeing. From growing strains out on agar to harvesting the very first flush, he fell in love with every step of cultivation—and Mad River Mycology was born.
